The work of Runo Lagomarsino presents alternative perspectives on historical, political and cultural power relationships. Often employing strategies of displacement and transformation to question the writing of history, especially within the context of South America, his installations, sculptures, pictures, and films focus on how today’s political and social environment has developed Runo Lagomarsino was born in Lund, Sweden in 1977 and lives and works in Malmö and São Paulo. In 2019 Lagomarsino was awarded The Friends of Moderna Museet Sculpture Prize, with a parallel solo exhibition at Moderna Museet, Stockholm. Runo Lagomarsino is a Swedish artist, who often uses strategies of displacement and transformation to question the writing of history, especially the colonial legacy of South America.

Runo Lagomarsino was born in 1977 in Lund, Sweden. He holds a BFA degree (2001) from the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Gothenburg, and an MFA degree (2003) from the Malmö Art Academy. Med sina installationer, skulpturer, bilder och filmer vill Runo Lagomarsino framställa andra sätt se på historiska, politiska och kulturella maktförhållanden. Utgångspunkten för hans konstverk är ofta den latinamerikanska samtidens koloniala arv: de spår av våld och dominans man kan finna i en kartas gränsdragningar, i en tapets ikonografi eller i dokumentationen av en Runo Lagomarsino once said, ”Art has the power to influence our seeing and ourselves. It can narrate, astonish and alter.” In his works, he often starts with familiar, not to say traditional, forms, which he then attacks, shifts, transcends, scrutinises and confronts.
